Brockhause-Efron Jewish Encyclopedia Bryansk, district town of Oryol province - district town of Oryol province; according to the census of 1897 there are 2,170 Jews in the district with a population of over 200 thousand, of which in B. there are about 1,321 Jews in B. (population about 25,000). There is a prayer house, authorized in 1896, when there were 1,083 Jews; funeral brotherhood since 1877; Talmud-torah. In October 1905 there was an anti-Jewish riot in connection with the manifesto of October 17.
