Brockhaus-Efron Jewish Encyclopedia  Olviopol is a districtless town in Kherson province, Elisavetgrad district. In 1799, when Olviopol was

a district town in Novorossiysk Province, there were: 30 Christians merchants, 1 Jewish; 301 Christians burghers, 111 Jews. In 1828 O. was

enlisted to the department of military settlements, and at that time the Jews were restricted in living here; in 1847 in O. there was no

"Jewish society". According to the census of 1897 the population was 6,884 including 1,482 Jews.
