Jewish communities in Congress Poland

 

     The region known as Congress Poland was part of the Russian Empire from 1815 until the end of WWI. Russia had been awarded the territory during the Congress of Vienna in the aftermath of the Napoleonic Wars. This geographic area which was originally located in the heart of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was the home of hundreds of Jewish communities.
