Brockhaus-Efron jewish Encyclopedia  Revel, a town - in the era of the Commonwealth, a town of the Zhmudz principality. 

In 1765, there were 365 poll tax payers in the kahal.

Brockhaus-Efron Jewish Encyclopedia  Tula is a provincial city. By the 1897 census, population of the area (gubernia) was

over 200K with 2,335 being Jews; this included over 100K in Tula itself with 2,324 Jews. There is a Saturday school. In 1904,

two prayer houses officially existed (since 1874 and 1903); one of them has a Talmud Torah.
