Brockhaus-Efron Jewish Encyclopedia  Gancheshti is a town in the Chisinau district of Bessarabian province. According to the revision

of 1847, the Ganchesh “Jewish community” consisted of 372 souls; according to the 1897 census, there were 5,044 inhabitants, of which

2,278 were Jews.
